Under the Fencing Act, neighbours typically share the cost of an ‘adequate’ fence on a shared boundary. In practice, you send them a fencing notice with the quote and details, and if they agree, the cost splits. Want something above adequate? That extra usually falls on you. Have the conversation with them before calling us and the whole process runs smoother.
In most residential settings, a boundary fence up to 2m doesn’t need consent. Beyond that — or if it sits on a retaining wall or near a boundary with specific rules — it needs checking first. We’ll flag it during the quote if your job is anywhere near that line.
A standard residential run usually takes two to three days: posts set and concreted on day one, then rails and palings once the concrete’s cured. Longer runs, sloped ground and gates will add extra time.
As a rule of thumb, about a third of the post length sits below ground — so a 1.8m fence needs posts roughly 600mm deep, concreted in. Gate posts and anything in soft or wind-exposed ground go deeper still. This one detail matters more than anything else for keeping a fence plumb long-term.
Yes — removing the old fence, digging out the old post concrete and carting the lot away is included in the job and covered in the quote. No need to organise a skip bin yourself.
Yes, and there are two approaches. Stepped, where each panel sits level and the fence drops in stages — suits a tidier, more formal look. Or raked, where the fence follows the ground’s slope with rails running parallel to it. We’ll show you both options at the quote since they look quite different.
Yes — and gates are usually the first thing to fail on cheap fencing. Ours are built with heavier posts, proper bracing, and quality hinges and latches, because a gate that sags and drags on the ground is something you’d deal with daily.
Not for durability — treated pine left unstained will just weather to grey and hold up fine regardless. Staining keeps the colour and looks noticeably better, especially on a fence visible from inside the house. We’re happy to stain it, or leave that part to you.
